For Release - June 8, 2007
Iso-Trude, Inc. a growing Grand Haven extruder of plastic parts, began an employee wellness program in September of 2006. Vice President Craig Janusz stated “rather than complain about health care costs, we needed to take an active role in our
employee’s health and wellbeing. This is a unique program for a small company.”
Craig and controller, Dave Brown brought in Barbara Badolati as a workplace wellness consultant. Barb began with a company wide screening using a local lab and the Michigan Department of Community Health’s Steps Up health risk assessment tool. All fifty two employees volunteered to take the assessment, which was an important baseline in order to measure progress.
With built in incentives, employees choose from various programs and services from private health coaching, screenings, employee/family assistance, stress reduction, and smoking cessation. Another part of the program is healthy eating. The company is subsidizing healthy snacks in the employee lunch room. On June 19, Iso-Trude employees will partake in a healthy cooking seminar with a company barbeque which will incorporate aspects of the seminar.
At year’s end, employees will re-take the assessment and screening. Based on their improvements, Iso-Trude will reward their employees with time off and prizes.
